Curve over strokes begin many uppercase cursive letters and only a few lowercase cursive letters. Curve over strokes begin at the baseline and extend to the midline for lowercase cursive letters.

Slant strokes begin three uppercase cursive letters and two numerals. Beginning slant strokes all start at the skyline. While slant strokes don’t begin many cursive letters, they are used at least once in nearly every lowercase and uppercase cursive letter. This makes the slant stroke very important.
